When Art Stops
The COVID-19 virus comes to the University of Delaware’s chemical engineering department. Delaware’s first case starts with a chemical engineering professor who passed it on to 3 students. The university made a decisive move to stop classes and make virtual learning available for the rest of the semester. This comes at a time where art students are preparing to exhibit their work in several different venues. The Art in the Garden, The Senior show, The Undergrad Juried Show, Cuban Poster Show and the list goes on. These shows are opportunities for budding artists to show their talents to the public. It is unfortunate but it seems to be the times we live in. While it is necessary to stop large gatherings for the sake of public health, the artists miss an opportunity to show their work. I do however commend the University’s quick decision to shut classes down to protect the students, faculty and employees. It is times like this we need leadership to make hard decisive decisions to protect the public.
